Praise for The Curse of Oak Island“Sullivan writes with open-minded balance, rendering the Oak Island story into a weirdly fascinating mystery.”―Booklist“The Curse of Oak Island is a definitive read for fans of the History Channel television show. Sullivan delves deeper into the history, personalities, and theories presented only briefly on the show. His approach is mostly unbiased, though he does tell the reader his thoughts on some of the theories and the theorists that he thoroughly researches and debunks. The book is incredibly well researched and the presentation . . . is very readable. If you’ve watched The Curse of Oak Island and were frustrated that snippets and possibilities were left tantalizingly unexplored, this is the book for you.” ―Heather Cover, Homewood Library (Birmingham, Alabama) “Sullivan isn’t writing about Oak Island the TV show; his subject is Oak Island the place, largely as seen and imagined by the show’s viewers. So, if you’ve ever been more entranced by the show’s long trips into history and theoretical island encounters across history, Sullivan’s book probably needs to be on your Christmas list.”―StarcasmRANDALL SULLIVAN was a contributing editor to Rolling Stone for over twenty years. His writing has also appeared in Esquire, Wired, Outside, Men’s Journal, The Washington Post, and the Guardian. Sullivan is the author of The Price of Experience; LAbyrinth, which is the basis for the forthcoming feature film City of Lies; The Miracle Detective, the book that inspired the television show The Miracle Detectives, which Sullivan co-hosted and which premiered on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) in January 2011; and Untouchable. He lives in Portland, Oregon.

From longtime Rolling Stone contributing editor and journalist Randall Sullivan, The Curse of Oak Island explores the curious history of Oak Island and the generations of individuals who have tried and failed to unlock its secrets.

In 1795, a teenager discovered a mysterious circular depression in the ground on Oak Island, in Nova Scotia, Canada, and ignited rumors of buried treasure. Early excavators uncovered a clay-lined shaft containing layers of soil interspersed with wooden platforms, but when they reached a depth of ninety feet, water poured into the shaft and made further digging impossible.

Since then the mystery of Oak Island’s “Money Pit” has enthralled generations of treasure hunters, including a Boston insurance salesman whose obsession ruined him; young Franklin Delano Roosevelt; and film star Errol Flynn. Perplexing discoveries have ignited explorers’ imaginations: a flat stone inscribed in code; a flood tunnel draining from a man-made beach; a torn scrap of parchment; stone markers forming a huge cross. Swaths of the island were bulldozed looking for answers; excavation attempts have claimed two lives. Theories abound as to what’s hidden on Oak Island―pirates’ treasure, Marie Antoinette’s lost jewels, the Holy Grail, proof that Sir Francis Bacon was the true author of Shakespeare’s plays―yet to this day, the Money Pit remains an enigma.

The Curse of Oak Island is a fascinating account of the strange, rich history of the island and the intrepid treasure hunters who have driven themselves to financial ruin, psychotic breakdowns, and even death in pursuit of answers. And as Michigan brothers Marty and Rick Lagina become the latest to attempt to solve the mystery, as documented on the History Channel’s television show The Curse of Oak Island, Sullivan takes readers along to follow their quest firsthand.

If you are interested in Oak Island, Read This Book A great read. Yes, it's full of details. The book is very well written and takes the reader through 200 plus years of information up to the present day TV show. For those of you who had negative comments about the book, I'm not quite sure you actually read it. Kudos to Mr. Sullivan, a job well done.Interesting companion to the show Having watched nearly every episode of The Curse of Oak Island I decided to buy this book after seeing the author on the show. The book is very well researched and mentions details that are not in the show. The only complaint I have is the chapter on Francis Bacon; it is way too long. I nearly lost interest part way through that chapter. I would liked to have read more about the current search and the people involved.Extensive unexcessary detail makes for hard read Firstly, the story of Oak Island is a full of many people such as explorers, investors etc. So it does not come as a shock there are many characters to follow. This is especially true since the author has included all the history since it’s discovery in late 1700s. However, I found it very bogged down with many details, some I found unnecessary. I was also disappointed that while he gave extensive details on theories, he completely glazed past the ivory whistle that had been found on the island. Previous to reading this book, I had never heard of the ivory whistle and I consider myself a big fan of the show. He mentions it once and gives no details of how it was found, who found it and where it is now. These details is what interests me about the entire conspiracy. I am less interested in every little detail of how big the shafts were created. The extensive history he gives on every theory (and there is many many theories) lost me. I became bored over this far fetched and wordy description. I love history but even as a history fanatic, the relation to the history he provided and Oak Island was far stretched. Overall, it was very hard to follow and I found unorganized in thought. Perhaps he could have organized each chapter by a time period of exploration. This would have made things more clear. He jumped around so much it was not enjoyable to read.

Catch and Kill Free Pdf

ISBN: B07TD413RV
Title: Catch and Kill Pdf Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators
In a dramatic account of violence and espionage, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow exposes serial abusers and a cabal of powerful interests hell-bent on covering up the truth, at any cost.

In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood's most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

All the while, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance they could not explain -- until now. And a trail of clues revealed corruption and cover-ups from Hollywood to Washington and beyond.

This is the untold story of the exotic tactics of surveillance and intimidation deployed by wealthy and connected men to threaten journalists, evade accountability, and silence victims of abuse. And it's the story of the women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a global movement.

Both a spy thriller and a meticulous work of investigative journalism, Catch and Kill breaks devastating new stories about the rampant abuse of power and sheds far-reaching light on investigations that shook our culture.

Intense, gripping, and eye opening look into abuses of power Regardless of your thoughts on Ronan, he certainly knows how to write an excellent investigative journalism book. Catch and Kill delves into the scenes behind major newsrooms and networks and how they have often successfully managed cover ups of executives, producers and stars, in essence putting profits above accountability. And of course, the book goes right at the Weinstein saga of cover ups. The book is intense, in fact it can be a bit too intense for some readers (this is in no way a kids book) but is still a compelling read.A must for investigative journalism fans, and a troubling insight into the industry~~The Devil is in the Details~~ I don't remember reading a more accurate blurb for a book for many months. This one is 'spot on' which I greatly appreciated. In 2017 the author, Ronan Farrow, was covering a routine network investigation. This eventually led to the ;blockbuster' story about one of Hollywood's most powerful producers. The reader will be along for the cover-ups, the corruption, and even espionage that enfolds within these pages. Just an incredible read that at times is surreal.'I was also fascinated with the behind the scenes conversations at NBC. And, the story about how this book came to 'be' is also amazing. The author states at the beginning of his book that it occurred between 2016 and early 2019. And, that there were over 200 interviews conducted.Early on, the females were reluctant to talk about their abuse at the hands of the predators. Soon more came forward to tell their stories. Finally, the courage and the time had come for them to speak out. I am glad that they did...One quote that Weinstein spoke on the phone to Andy Lack (head of the network) caught my attention ..."it was the 90's'... Please...as if the year mattered! Obviousy to a predator it did. This is journalistic reporting at its finest, I feel. Just superlative gathering of facts, interviewing females that were willing to go on record, and finally get this story out where it belongs...in the eyes of the public.A truly fascinating and detailed story which is captivating and so very sad and sickening for the victims. My highest recommendation for this excellent, truly excellent work that the author accomplished.A journalistic tour de force! Ronan Farrow nails it! Ronan Farrow's brilliant exposé, CATCH AND KILL, will leave you slack-jawed in awe, with his powerhouse, bravura reporting. His determination, commitment and sincerity are evident from beginning to end, and is almost enough to make one think there is actually hope for the future of Serious Journalism in America. While there are enough truly disgusting characters in this narrative, a special place of loathsomeness should be reserved for the duplicitous, woman-hating Lisa Bloom, who was secretly on Weinstein's legal team, while also "representing" several of Weinstein's victims as their "civil rights attorney"--in some cases, convincing them not to sue Weinstein--while also coaching Weinstein on the most effective ways for him to "bring down" these women. I hope that any credibility she had before is shattered. She makes herself so easy to hate. Ronan Farrow deserves all the plaudits he's getting for this book, which should serve as an historic "starting point" that signaled the end of the white male patriarchy that's been in place forever (in the media and beyond) .Time's up is right!

Walden (AmazonClassics Edition) Download

ISBN: B073QLBBYZ
Title: Walden (AmazonClassics Edition) Pdf

At Walden Pond, Henry David Thoreau reflected on simpler living in the natural world. By removing himself from the distractions of materialism, Thoreau hoped to not only improve his spiritual life but also gain a better understanding of society through solitary introspection.

In Walden, Thoreau condenses his two-year, two-month, two-day stay into a single year, using the four seasons to symbolize human development—a cycle of life shared by both nature and man. A celebration of personal renewal through self-reliance, independence, and simplicity, composed for all of us living in “quiet desperation,” Walden is eternal.

Revised edition: Previously published as Walden, this edition of Walden (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

A beautiful and inspiring book. It was a wonderful experience to actually feel like I was there with Thoreau at Walden Pond. The way he studied and described simply living and the appreciation of nature fits right into my values. I loved having insight to a life that took place so many years ago through his eyes, and with his mind and heart. He expresses his beliefs about life and society so eloquently. At times he goes into great detail in his observations, but then masterfully makes a valid point that is truly inspiring. This is a book that really makes you think about the purpose of our existence in this world, our values, and how we should live.Walden, the Kindle version. This little book has a big heart and is well worth reading on your Kindle. I have some printed versions, but recently had the opportunity to visit Walden pond (a state reservation) near Concord, MA, and loaded the Kindle version on my Kindle Fire as I could then read it without having my book suffer travel wear and tear. So I took the train from Boston, somewhere close to Harvard University, towards Concord, and spent the day walking the pathways surrounding the pond. I could read the book and search for matching descriptions of the pond area as described by Henry Thoreau. That was a lot of fun. The train line still runs on its original track, and you can imagine Henry listening to the whistle and seeing the smoke of the train. The park and pond is beautiful, and combined with the book and Henry Thoreau's stories, transfers one back in time to another world, a world that was both different and similar to the world that we know. There is a life-size model of Henry Thoreau's cabin (he lived in this cabin for 2 years and 2 months, and started construction late March 1845) in the parking lot across the road, and construction has started on a new visitors centre. Load this book on your Kindle and visit the pond...Review of ANNOTATED EDITION, not of Thoreau's work Review of ANNOTATED EDITION, not of Thoreau's work. Potentially great idea. Many of the annotations were superficial or unnecessary, although others helpful. Biggest problem with this is the printer's layout, which has two careless oversights: size and position on page. Two pages of text have been squeezed onto a single page (to allow the side-by-side commentary), resulting in tiny print. Tough on anyone over 40. Then, the printer left wide margins on the *outside* of the page, and squeezed Thoreau's text into the binding. Really foolish use of the available space. The result is something that could have been fascinating being just plain awkward and unsatisfying to handle and read.

Title: The Suspect Pdf An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, the Media, and Richard Jewell, the Man Caught in the Middle
A contributing source for the Warner Bros.’ film Richard Jewell starring Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde and Paul Walter Hauser!

"Meticulously reported, bracingly written, full of memorable and bizarre characters, the book casts a wary eye on the worlds of law enforcement and journalism, and their multiple failures in this tale. It’s a story with no winners – except for readers of this terrific book.”†‹ — Jeffrey Toobin

The masterful true-crime account of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing that captured the world's attention, and the heroic security guard-turned-suspect at the heart of it all

On July 27, 1996, a hapless former cop turned hypervigilant security guard named Richard Jewell spotted a suspicious bag in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, the town square of the 1996 Summer Games. Inside was a bomb, the largest of its kind in FBI and ATF history. Minutes later, the bomb detonated amid a crowd of fifty thousand people. But thanks to Jewell, it only wounded 111 and killed two, not the untold scores who would have otherwise died. With the eyes of the world on Atlanta, the Games continued. But the pressure to find the bomber was intense. Within seventy-two hours, Jewell went from the hero to the FBI’s main suspect. The news leaked and the intense focus on the guard forever changed his life. The worst part: It let the true bomber roam free to strike again.

What really happened that evening during the Olympic Games? The attack left a mark on American history, but most of what we remember is wrong. In a triumph of reporting and access in the tradition of the best investigative journalism, former U.S. Attorney Kent Alexander and former Wall Street Journal reporter Kevin Salwen reconstruct all the events leading up to, during, and after the Olympic bombing from mountains of law enforcement evidence and the extensive personal records of key players, including Richard himself.

The Suspect, the culmination of more than five years of reporting, is a gripping story of the rise of domestic terrorism in America, the advent of the 24/7 news cycle, and an innocent man’s fight to clear his name.

Compelling read to a story you thought you knew but didn’t A story that you thought you knew but till you read the book you soon realize that you only new a small fraction. Great story about our justice system or injustice system and how it effects a “suspect”. Fabulous research and a very compelling read. 20 years ago but reading through this very well written and research book it seems like yesterday. Can’t wait to see the movie next month. At least it's not the source of the eastwood farrago No index or footnotes in a nonfiction book that purports to be exhaustively researched. Also, so-called writers who don't know "nauseous" from "nauseated." As drama the book fails because there is no one to like. However, that is not the fault of those who are compelled to deal in facts. What is a flaw is the continual digression into the real bomber. Especially his thoughts and minute-by-minute fugitive exploits, lapsing into the Oracular Voice. (Once again, IN COLD BLOOD asserts its deleterious effect.) Jewell is neither bomber nor hero, but he enlisted a shyster to shake down the media for 1.5 million bucks. Scruggs is little more than a strumpet with a notebook. And Johnson is a crypto-fascist who tried his best to destroy an innocent man. To reiterate: No one to like, but plenty of hate to go around. The true role of the media and law enforcement in the 'trial' of Richard Jewell. Wonderfully researched, fair, informative and written in a very agreeable form and pace. I met Richard after all this was completed in 1996 and he became friends with me and my wife. Details of our meeting is in the book but that's not the reason for my comment. IN MY OPINION, Richard suffered mightily because of malicious, misdirected and selfishly continued actions by Atlanta Journal Newspapers and FBI personnel. As I read it, those two entities new very well that Richard could not have made the call and been at his station that night to perform as he did and saved so many lives. Too, the Newspapers and the FBI new this well ahead of the proceedings but chose not to publish nor to suspend directing their focus on Richard. As I heard at the book introduction last night, pressure was from 'on high' at the FBI to continue so their 'image' for diligence could be maintained. What a shame.

Fallout Pdf

Title: Fallout Pdf The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook
Author: Victoria Rosenthal
Published Date: 2018-10-23
Page: 192

"With this new cookbook, you’re going to be able to throw the absolute best release party for Fallout 76" (Nerdist)"This book is fantastic" (IGN)"The pre-bomb published book states its intention of encouraging healthy and flavorful cuisine 'regardless of the apocalyptic circumstance.'”  (Gluttonous Geek) Victoria Rosenthal launched her blog, Pixelated Provisions, in 2012 to combine her lifelong passions for video games and food by recreating consumables found in many of her favorite games. When she isn't experimenting in the kitchen and dreaming up new recipes, she spends her days developing graphics for NASA. She resides in Houston, Texas with her husband and corgi.

Craft your own glass of Nuka-Cola, a bowl of BlamCo Mac & Cheese, and more with the recipes in Fallout: The Official Cookbook.

Based on the irradiated delicacies of the world of Bethesda Entertainment’s Fallout, this Vault-Tec–approved cookbook provides fans of the award-winning series with recipes inspired by their favorite Fallout foods. Whip up tasty versions of the Mirelurk egg omelette, throw some deathclaw meat on the grill, and re-create BlamCo Mac & Cheese with Fallout: The Official Cookbook.

Neat cookbook for Fallout fans, few flaws I've made 3 receipes so far from this book, Yum Yum devilled eggs, Blamco Mac and cheese, and the Quantum mud pie. Both the non-dessert items had quite a spicy kick to them, but I am wondering if that was the authors intention to simulate the Rads you normally get from eating those pre-war foods found in game. If it was, it's pretty neat! The only issue I have is that a lot of the recipes have hard to find ingredients (duck, lamb, miso paste, a few others). Also in some of the dessert recipes they list "heavy wipping cream" and then "heavy cream". Those two things are the same item. There is a difference between "wipping cream" and "heavy cream/heavy wipping cream", but there is no difference between "heavy cream" and "heavy wipping cream". Just thought that it could be pretty confusing for a beginner dessert maker"Welcome to Vault-Tec life!" I've had this book for almost two weeks now, and I've enjoyed preparing several meals out of it so far! Each recipe has a full-page picture on the opposite page accompanying it. There are loads of humorous notes and descriptions in the book, as well as some nice artwork on the inside covers and some clever nods to the game (such as the S.P.E.C.I.AL. stats). The quality of the book itself is also great; it's hardcover and printed on high-quality paper. The recipes range from appetizers to desserts and everything in between, and they all have clearly-written instructions including prep time and servings. Some are more difficult to prepare than others but there's many that even a novice cook could pull off with ease. The one thing that was a slight disappointment was that there are few clear instructions on how to adjust the recipes in case you need to substitute ingredients. Some recipes call for ingredients that may be somewhat difficult to find, and having some dietary restrictions myself that may be an issue for some buyers. However, this is a problem I've found with most other cookbooks that aren't specifically tailored for people on a special diet. Overall I think the author did a great job of including a wide variety of recipes, and many of them have ingredients such as coconut milk if you're lactose intolerant. There are even some vegetarian recipes included as well, like the meatloaf. Also, the recipes that call for ingredients such as bison work well with other meats. I tried one with beef and it cooked up wonderfully! Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the Nuka-Cola recipe was more generic than the 17 fruit flavors the game states it has. I wasn't expecting to add 17 different fruits into a drink recipe anyway but there's really only a handful of citrus and cinnamon flavors that come through to differentiate it from regular cola. The Nuka-Cola Quantum recipe seems better in this regard since there's also fruit punch and pomegranate included. Aside from that the drink recipes seem to be tasty, and there's a nice amount that are non-alcoholic as well. I got what I expected and I didn't find the content of the book to be out of setting. For what it is (a Fallout-branded cookbook) I think the author did an excellent job and I've enjoyed flipping through it just to read the notes. If you're either a fan of the game or just a chef looking for some unique spins on recipes (the chili comes to mind) then this is a must-have. Looking forward to the Elder Scrolls one as well!"I'll bring the Baked Bloatfly!" My preordered book was not damaged at all. I love that each recipe has a picture, even includes the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat boost you get with each one. Lists prep time, cook time, what it pairs well with & even how many servings are in each recipe so you can easily double up on ingredients if you're cooking for your vault party!😍 The last few drinks are alcoholic, but all the Nuka-Colas are kid friendly!!Only complaints.... "Psycho" does not have a recipe.😭
