Fast enjoyable read for an overview of the process Love it. So adorable. Fast read. Shows the concept and teaches the process in an easy to understand way. I like that the character Chiaki goes through a lot of the same reasons that we all do when you've never lived in a "non-messy" environment. I always thought it was just who i am and there were ppl who are neat and ocd and ppl who r not and then hoarders. But its all a choice and it helped me recalibrate my thoughts on why i never got rid of things. I thought if i had a memory i was suppose to keep it or if it wasnt broken i had to keep using it. Or certain clothes didnt have holes so better keep it even though its 10 yrs old and from high school and i dont fit it. The life changing magic of tyding up changed my life 2 yrs ago when i bought it. I didnt get to finish the process last time, but i have restarted it this week and this book helped resurge my spark.I did the clothes purge and got rid of a basket and a half to donate and threw away another basket worth. In the initial purge there were 2 baskets worth of my boyfriends clothes mixed in so i had to seperate that out as i went. All the white tanks are for work under my uniform. I have the hung stuff rising to the right but kept my workout tops in one section at the end together. I'll still have to reorganize them, but they feel better i think. Love that the drawers look pretty and i can see everything. Cant wait to do more and finally decorate aftr living in our new place for a year now. I want it to feel like a home not an apartment. We dont plan on moving for a long time so i dont feel like if i hang stuff on the walls im just gona take it down latr anyways so whats the point. I want to enjoy our space before we get a house, if we ever decide to, that is.In Manga I FINALLY learned the lessons I have two of the books on the Spark Joy philosophy. One even in Audio Book format. Yet I never seem to get through them. Yet in Manga, being a visual person, I got through it in a couple of days and actually Screen Captured some of the lessons and combined them into a note to remind me and help me keep and discard things that did or didn’t Spark Joy. Unlike some others, I had no issue with the head character falling in love with so many people (it happens in real life) or that learning to keep only things that Spark Joy actually might lead to better relationship (there are far more to relationships than love relationships) and how it opens up your life. I highly recommend this book. So enjoy.More Visual Than I Thought, Even Went Hard Copy! So I'd read through Marie Kondo's initial book a while back, and it was good information, but I guess I just didn't have a frame of reference for it. A couple years later I was frustrated with my apartment and my closet again, and noticed that there was a manga version of the book. It had good reviews and didn't seem very long, and I'd just read The Curated Closet and Goodbye Things, so I was in a better headspace to absorb the information this time.Long story short, THIS PRESENTATION WAS FANTASTIC!I even picked up a hard copy of this for my physical shelf and I think it will get to live there for quite a while. Also, I think when a character was used to go through the process (Chiaki) even though I don't have the same issues, it helped to see that it's not just a clinical process that hits everyone the same way, but it's a personal (I can't believe I'm going to use this phrase...sorry universe!) journey from where you are to where you want to go, and at some point if you're doing it right, it's going to feel weird.

Manipulation Deconstructed I'm fascinated by psychology, and why people do what they do. The book explores the interesting concept of the "covertly aggressive" individual, someone who uses subtly manipulative tactics to further his own agendas, while still preserving the image of a good person ("impression management") and effectively concealing his true intentions. These tactics are insidious, and particularly confusing to conscientious people, who often fall prey to these underhanded individuals with less-than-stellar motives. The two most valuable insights that I gained from the book are the reminder to be aware that not all people operate from a place of personal integrity, and that over-intellectualizing why people do what they do, is counterproductive. It's more important to recognize manipulation when it occurs, confront it in the moment and self-protect. In all of the examples presented, the manipulation "victims" knew something was wrong, but failed to trust their own initial intuitions and perceptions. I do believe that most people are predominantly good, but also recognize that there are others who exist solely to advance themselves at any expense to others. This is perhaps the hardest thing to learn. It is easier to excuse bad behavior than stand up to it, but freedom exists in being aware and assertive. This book is a good starting point of reference for anyone interested in psychology and human behavior. It is informative and instructive, though other books in the same genre may offer more in-depth material. Typographical errors detracted from the content.Don’t be so quick to second guess yourself. It explains just how I was feeling. A doctor recommended this book. I needed to really understand how people take advantage of me. This book has answered all my questions. I will be discussing this book with my pastor. Not everyone fights fair. When they can no longer control you then they try to control what others think of you.Evil Has New Name - "Covert-Aggressive" This book should be required reading. For everyone. Period.I had no idea that there was such a personality known as "covert-aggressive" but now that I DO know, I realize just how many times in my life I've been raked over the coals by these types, most times leaving my head spinning in shock that it happened, yet again.I never "got it" until I read this book.I've always been considered a "nice" person. Sometimes maybe TOO nice. And with this perception often comes "confusing kindness with weakness."Covert-aggressives cash in on this full-throttle. They're sneaky, conniving, smart, and ALWAYS watching you to decide which move they'll make to get what they want, in the same way a cat watches a mouse: quietly. Cats never come right out and pounce on their prey; there's always the "lead up" time where they just take it all in and STUDY their victims. This is PRECISELY what covert-aggressives do for a living with flattery, baby-talk, no conscience, no accountability, "poor me" and "I had no idea" all rolled into one hugely dysfunctional (and damaging - to YOU) burrito.THIS is the new "evil." Yes, it's worth reading -- after you see the movie I pre-ordered this script before the movie was released; I'm glad I did. The day after I saw the movie, I read the script cover-to-cover. It fills in details that you miss in the often-quickly-delivered screen repartee -- the ones that cause mini-arguments with your spouse ("Wait, did he say...?" or "How old would that other character have been at the time...?"). I also picked up on a few details that may or may not be meaningful in subsequent films, such as the relationship between Newt and his assistant.Don't imagine that the script is a stand-in for the movie. It isn't a novelization; it's a script, with instructions to the actors and the director.Not a novel Very disappointing, not a real book. Just a very thin script spread out over a lot of paper pagesI am torn here.... it's a great addition to a series, but weak on it's own. Summary: While being moved from America to England, Grindelwald escapes and starts his campaign to gather his supporters and begin his crusade to raise wizards up in the world so that they rule over non-wizards. Lines are drawn and loyalties are tested as Dumbledore and Grindelwald gather their allies. Newt doesn’t want any part in any of that, but when Dumbledore comes to him for aid he answers the call. It seems simple enough…. There are wizards that want to kill Credence, and some (Grindelwald) that want to use him. But, with help, there might be hope for the boy. If there is a way for the boy to live, and not be a danger to anyone, doesn’t he deserve that? In other news, Queenie and Jacob are an item now- with very different ideas about where their relationship is going. Jacob knows what will happen if they marry… he can’t risk Queenie going to jail for him. Queenie wants what everyone else is allowed to have- love, a family. Grindelwald tells her he wants their people to be “free to love”…. is he actually the answer? Sides are being chosen for a fight that will forever change the wizarding world…. which side are you on?My thoughts:I am torn here. I loved this screen play and I really, really liked the movie (I didn’t feel right doing my review until I had seen the movie, nor seeing the movie before reading the screenplay…. I am weird like that). That said, this was more of a plot moving device than something I can see running on it’s own merit. If I didn’t already love the series, and wasn’t already invested, I might not have even cared about this one- but it’s so important. You have your first look at young Dumbledore, already a bit of a legend if only a teacher at Hogwarts. There’s the fan favorites from the last book: Newt, Tina, Jacob, Queenie, Niffler and Pick. We also have some new characters that may be very important later- Nagini (Credence’s friend), Leta Lestrange (Newt’s childhood friend and his brother’s fiance), Nicholas Flamel, and other. Add to that, some great stuff with Newt and the beasts and I am set. That said, I feel like there’s so much more that could have been done here. It was full length for both screenplay and movie…. but felt like nothing really got done. This was necessary to introduce the key players and explain future conflict. If you aren’t already sold on this series, though…. it can be a bit underwhelming. Visually, it’s stunning… but the first movie had better graphics and was all-around more eye catching. I also don’t know how well it’s doing- well, I hope…. but the movie came to theaters 3 days ago and I had the 3D screening to myself (hopefully just because it was a Monday). I loved seeing Niffler again, and the little nifflers. Pick was great and we saw some other beasts, which I felt were well done- the movie really helped me flesh those out it my head. I didn’t like Queenie’s role here. She was all over the place…. understandably, but come on! I wanted her to be stronger, but I fear that she’ll just be a pawn. I feel bad for Jacob- and absolute favorite of mine. I did feel that Depp made a fantastic Grindelwald- he’s supposed to be charismatic, strong, a bit evil but someone that people would gravitate to. Nailed it. Dumbledore’s casting, as well, seemed to be spot on. I really liked his character. Having information from everyone’s pasts also helped flesh things out. Why doesn’t Dumbledore just kick Grindelwald’s all? Find out in this book. Who is Credence? Find out in this book. Despite not feeling like it can stand on it’s own, I am a HUGE fan of this one… but only because I am taking it as an installment of a series instead of just for itself. Three and a half stars… round up to four for the movie.On the adult content scale, there’s violence, but all things considered it wasn’t over the top at all. I give it a three.

For the Intermediate Mexican Cook First, a couple of PRELIMINARIES. I, for one, was not bothered by the "flexicover." Hardcovers are a little more durable, but (a) they're also more expensive, and (b) aren't always as easy to use in the kitchen. My copy also arrived in perfect condition, which brings up A GENERAL POINT: it's a little misleading to rate the book on how it arrives, since that reflects on Amazon and doesn't speak to the quality of the book or whether someone should buy it. If yours arrives in horrible condition, return it for another.ONTO THE BOOK. To be honest, after I read the first 30 pages, I wanted to write a review and give it two stars. The book is riddled with errors in translation and grammar - at least one per page - which IS distracting and, I thought, indicated that this book was slapped together last minute. (I've noticed the lack of editing in other Phaidon books, too.) I was also disappointed by the "Basics" section, since, as others have pointed out, there are only a handful of recipes, which you can find anywhere, and you are only given brief recipes (like on a notecard) with a briefer cultural introduction to how pervasive the dish is. There is little to no instruction on what to look for, guidance for what can go wrong, why, or how to adjust, and there is the annoying refrain that repeats throughout the book: basically, 'this dish is endlessly versatile, you can make it however you want.' Great, so what did I buy this book for? I was disappointed in the salsa section, especially after the authors suggest that the salsa is everything.WHY FOUR STARS, NOT TWO? This book really comes into its own in the middle sections ("Breakfast" and "Weekday Meals.") True to its title, the book aims to bring Mexican food into your house, which you are more likely to do if you think these are dishes that (a) you CAN make and (b) you MIGHT actually make or are excited to try. They are relatively simple recipes that do capture the spirit of Mexican cuisine, often with a modern twist, and that seem like something I actually want to make on a Tuesday night or Sunday morning and that aren't just a selection of side dishes. In some cases, like the Quinoa salad, they are also potentially healthful.SUMMARY. I understand why some are disappointed with the book. Enrique Olvera is something of an ambassador of Mexican cuisine and the expectations are set high for anything with his name on it. If this is your first book on Mexican cuisine, and you don't already have the basics down, this is probably not the place to start. There are few instructions and little guidance for a cuisine that can be technically frustrating for the novice. But if you are familiar with the basics, ingredients, and flavors, this book is full of helpful reminders of how to combine them in traditional, yet slightly novel ways that look approachable and potentially part of the regular repertoire. And the pictures are pretty - not surprisingly for a Phaidon book.Not your traditional Mexican Food Cookbook - Grab a copy! My copy arrived on Wednesday, March 27th 2019 and it’s been fun looking over the recipes and I already marked a few I’m definitely going to try out! The only thing I was very disappointed about, the book arrived damaged from the front cover. Looks like it was bent over and it cracked. Disappointed in this because of the cost of the book. It deserves the stars as it should based on me reviewing it but that crack is a bummer.Disappointed I waited 6 months for this book - pre ordering based on the reputation of the chef and publisher. The description on the order and pictures was that it was a hard cover but was delivered as a "flexicover". I am sending this back. Enrique Olvera's name is associated with this and it this makes him and this process look like amateurs. Every other Phaidon book I have is top notch - it seems like something happened here.
